In 2018, Tamara McKenney opened Apponaug Brewing Company to create a community hotspot centered around unique craft beer and quality food. Then COVID-19 struck, forcing McKenney to adapt her business due to new, physical-distancing protocols. After receiving small business relief funding, she took the money and turned to BoxPop® to deliver an open-air solution that would expand her seating and safely serve her community.
To keep her brewery open, McKenney needed help fast. Promising delivery in weeks not months, the BoxPop® team started by adding two flip-up door awnings to the 20’ long shipping container and a staircase leading up to a rooftop patio portion of the bar. After painting the outside in cool gray, they installed custom countertops and cabinetry (courtesy of sister-company, Britten WoodWorks). Kegerator taps, stainless steel sinks, and refrigeration units. Finally, the team affixed a 10’ long, branded decal to the back of the bar and shipped it to Rhode Island.
From design to delivery, BoxPop® completed Apponaug’s mobile taproom in just six weeks. McKenney was thrilled with the final product and loved working with the team every step of the way. “Working with BoxPop® was quick and easy—we didn’t have to build a thing. As soon as it was delivered, we could start making money,” says McKenney. “With the additional revenue, the container bar will pay for itself the first year. Plus, I just love that my customers can buy a beer and have a fun, outside place to wait for their table.”
