PORTFOLIO > PARKING LOT TO PAY DIRT
Founded in 2020, Lagoonfest Texas is a summer-long event offering an affordable, manmade, beach oasis to thousands of residents and visitors. As part of a $1.5 million renovation and enhancement project, development directors turned to BoxPop® to design and fabricate 22 shipping containers that would help transform their empty parking lot location into a luxurious, tropical-themed recreation and service center
Using 3D-modeling software, designers rendered a uniquely-shaped layout inspired by the Texas Star to create a resort-style ambiance for attendees. Engineers transformed 22 basic containers into bars, a restaurant, an entertainment stage, rooftop party VIP decks, ticket booths, restrooms, storage facilities, and a first-aid center. The team covered the exteriors in white cladding for a cohesive look and headed to Texas to bring the oasis to life. After unloading the pop-ups with cranes and forklifts, they hung custom mesh and vinyl banners (courtesy of parent company, Britten, Inc.) to complete the branding of the beach escape.
“Seeing the containers now, it’s hard to imagine they could have been used to actually ship coal or manufactured products,” CEO of The Lagoon Development Company, Uri Man, told The Post Newspaper of Galveston County. “With our new container system and expanded beaches, we expect to have more than 150,000 visitors this year, proving the viability of the public beach concept.”
